I've lived next door to the same family for about fifteen years. I baby-sat their kids when they were little, we've gone to each other's various parties, we're very friendly. The kids are now 14 and 11.
I'm engaged to be married next year. My fiance is an umpire for his second job. Two night ago, he happened to be umpiring the championship game for my neighbor's daughter's team. It was AWFUL. I was there watching since it was my hometown, and I couldn't believe the actions of my neighbor. He yelled to his daughter "You can hit the other pitcher, she's got nothing. She's a LOSER!" He yelled until the other pitcher cried.
Then he started in on my fiance. My dad was an umpire, so I know they get razzed. My neighbor was yelling at him by name, calling him blind, telling him he stinks, etc. All of the other parents were staring.
Then this morning, he knocked on the door. My mother answered and he started at it again! He told her "I hope your son-in-law's mechanics are better in the bedroom than on the field or you'll never have any grandchildren." Who even thinks like that?? He said "Seriously, he stinks. I'd be happy to give him some pointers." I'm dreading going home because if he says anything to me, I'll let him have it. I don't care about keeping the peace.
