Why is it that the NCAA doesn't want the players from the bench to touch a runner scoring on a HR (IMO, ludicrous demand), but they don't mind them crowding around the plate to the point that it can be extremely difficult for the umpire to see the runner touch the plate?

Seems to me, you are more likely to have a runner miss the plate in the excitement than to be aided by someone slapping their hand.
