There are black and white umpires, or atleast those who think they are (I'll bet I can demonstrate that EVERY umpire deviates from the rule book at one time or another) and there are umpires who know the rules and know the game.
There's a great book out, "50 Ways to Ruin a Game." I would recommend it highly.
And, trust me, my conversation with any coach about any alleged incident like this will be very short indeed, that is if I ever get a coach so ignorant that he would even ask about it.
