Did the coach WANT to lose?
I did my last set of Church league Championships Saturday night.
Let me call the teams Blue and Green for good reason...Blue is winning by as many as 16 points with a running clock and only 10 minutes left to play. Green team removes all of their starters and puts in the bench. Bench plays their hearts out and begins to cut the lead. 14, 12, 9, 7, 4, 2 point lead with under 2 minutes to play.
Blue 25 drops his shoulder in front of Blue bench and rams Green player, I am lead and have an Offensive foul. easy call. Coach doesn't like the call and complains. He calls a TO, granted and he comes out on the floor and says "That was a TERRIBLE call" I "T"ed him up. He had complained about a call earlier and I had enough.
Green makes both and the game is tied. Green takes the lead and wins by 1.
After the game coach complains that I lost the game for his team.
His team was 1-6 from the FT line ( 0-2 in the 4th Q ) He never slowed the ball down when he had the lead. I lost the game for him....BTW, the team that won, also won the regular season championship ( I had no idea )
I really believe he didn't want to win and wanted an excuse for losing. Thoughts?
