Yeah - it's changed over the years. When I went there in the early 60's (that's the
1960's), it was like being at the United Nations. We had every ethnic group, color, religion, etc. you could imagine. If you wanted to be "one of the guys", you had to qualify by adhering to two criteria. One - you had to like sports. You didn't have to be good at sports, just like them. Two - you had to like girls. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
For those of you not familiar with the area, Bloom HS is located in Chicago Heights, which is about 35 miles south of the Loop, straight down Halstead street. My family moved from inside the city on the south side to "da Heights", as it was called, when I was in third grade and I really grew up there.
