I do not even know if they told the visiting team they would do this. All I asked was that we not stop the game at an awkward moment and when the game clearly moving. Well they had the points on the board for each player in the game and we knew the minute it happen. The kid did not have a good first half so it did not happen until the second half in a close game. Also it was kind of clear that the kid was not trying to break the record in the first half on the road as he was always passing the ball off or not taking an open shot he had to get one to his teammates (he was the point guard as well). When the player got to the milestone we stopped the game and went on with the ceremony.
The amazing thing was the kid actually was not at all boastful or interested in the attention. He almost looked embarrassed that he was getting the attention. They gave the kid the game ball and we switched to another ball and we continued the game. The ceremony took about 3 or 4 minutes and the game continued. The home team lost the game.

3-4 minutes? Seems a little too long for my liking. One minute should cover everything you need to know, and it really should be just a nice short gesture. Maybe do a pregame award at his home school, no wonder the kid looked embarassed.
