I don't know about all this other stuff that's being posted but...

Each coach is required to list his starters 10 minutes prior to the game starting so that the opposing coach knows who he will be facing to start the game. He can meet with his starters prior to the game and determine what type of offensive and defensive strategies he's going to employ.

This is also one of the reasons a substitute cannot report and enter the game after the warning horn during a timeout. It gives each coach an opportunity to know who is going to be on the floor for the opponent.
