Buffing a thin layer of Vaseline onto shoes that are made of Corfam or patent leather will give one a temporary shine, but Vaseline is sticky and will collect dust and there goes the shine you wanted.

note: Corfam is a patent leather like material, that members of the police and military wear, that do not need shining. Anybody who is in the military wouldn't be wearing dress uniform shoes made from Corfam until he is out of bootcamp because one needs to learn how to spit shine shoes so that one can see his reflection in the shoe.
