I don't care much what it looks like, so long as I can easily find the stuff I care about: time, score, team fouls, arrow. But the one thing that is an absolute, must-have requirement...is that you have to be able to hear the stinkin' horn. Really loud. If I can't clearly and unmistakably hear the horn in a gym with a couple hundred people in it, I wouldn't buy it no matter how well designed the rest of it is.
