"A chronic shortage of umpires forced the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) officials to turn to Berrimah Prison for prospective boundary and goal umpires."

What's really ironic about this is I bet a "goal umpire" is one of the guys by the goalposts who comes out with fingers blazin' if the attempt is successful. One-handed for the one-pointer, both guns if it's in the middle (for six points).

Last night watched a few minutes on some high-numbered station with my younger son -- first time I'd watched any probably since ESPN's early days. Those goal judges are now dressed normally in pants and shirt. Seems they used to have long, white overcoats, making the "shootout" pose all the more interesting.
