A hazard? Maybe. I don't remember ever seeing a player get spiked while making a tag, though I won't deny that it does happen.

I have seen many players hit by pitchers. Several of them had to leave the game - some with broken bones. It would seem that a pitched ball is a much greater hazard. Maybe we should suggest the use of Nerf balls.
