Obviously the lad is at the table when various officials, presumably including veterans, use an incorrect mechanic. If he's learning by watching he needs to be set straight when what he's watching is not correct, not slammed for raising a question, as indicated by the phrase "However I thought..." which is anything but a pronouncement than an incorrect mechanic is correct.
