I believe that the certification you are looking would be a degree in turf grass science. This degree has become more and more popular in the last 10 years. This career is often associated with grounds keeping of a golf course, but there are a few who take their education to the fields of professional and semi-professional teams. Also, I've found some interesting books through my local library about this. And as for getting him to see you're capable of keeping the diamond looking nice, maybe keep your own yard in A+ shape. Good Luck!
