Boys JV game of cross-town rivals, 4 minutes until tip-off. I am without a partner. AD is not to be found. The last I had heard, he was out of town for the AD conference (San Diego) last weekend and he was looking for a partner for this game at that time.

Good news: the scorer is a certified official.
Bad news: he had major knee surgery; doctors orders to not work any games til Feb.

Good news: Scorer has his $1600 brace and is willing to give it a go.
Bad news: He does not have his officiating gear.

Good news: both coaches do not have an issue with him doing game in street clothes (I usually carry a spare, but not this night.) We did scrounge a striped shirt, I gave him my 2nd whistle and a shoelace for a lanyard.

At the start of 4th quarter, the AD shows up in his "School spirit" clothes and claims that he came directly from a "doctor's appointment". HE also admits that HE was supposed to be the 2nd official(on an emergency basis) fpr this game.

Game went well, partner's knee held up nicely. "Visiting team" won by two.
