As others have said, it depends on where you're officiating. In our area, we don't get paid for our scrimmages.

For me, I treat it like a preseason camp and a necessary investment for the upcoming season. It gets my mind right and thinking hoops, gets me some instruction/critical review, wipes off the rust, and starts to get me back in basketball shape.

Thankfully, I don't have to travel far to do my games and our requirement is only three V scrimmages prior to the regular season - I usually do more (going on my fourth yr, I try to get as much work in with the vets as I can).
