Situation 1 - A1 dribbles from backcourt to frontcourt. 5ft. into frontcourt A1 falls and ball bounces off his foot. Ball slowly bounces into the backcourt. A2 while standing in the frontcourt reaches over the division line and grabs the ball in the air between bounces. Official (big dog) waves off violation. My wife asks me if that is a backcourt violation. I say yes because ball bounced in backcourt and was then touched by A2 (ball is at the location it last touched the floor) = backcourt violation. Now I'm not sure if that is correct. Help!
Situation 2 - 20 seconds left in a 1 point game. A1 shoots the ball which is short and rebounds off the rim going out of bounds. A1 trys to save the ball from going out of bounds but takes a pretty good hip check from B1. Lead official is probably screened since he is on the endline near the sideline. Center official probably had a pretty good look at the action (I was in the stands directly behind center official) as most players were on that side of the floor. Call was passed by all the officials. My question is if you were center and saw what occurred would you make that call or pass since (I think) it would be out of your primary area? I've only worked a couple of years and am doing all 2 man games, but hope to move up eventually. Any thoughts would be appreciated. By the way I'm not complaining about the calls just trying to learn. I thought the officiating overall was pretty good.
