Back when our team won the state HS baseball tourney in the mid-80's, the umps weren't wearing their choice of black shirts, gray shirts, dark blue shirts, powder blue shirts, white shirts, or red shirts.

So I'll rephrase that...in the past 20 or so years.

High school umpires in WI have their choice of navy or light blue (which we now interpret as ML polo blue). They threaten playoff assignments if you're caught wearing black. Although they slipped in the WIAA Bulletin and mentioned black jackets, so we've gone to wearing black jackets, black plate coats, and light blue shirts.
