If/when he erroneously makes the call, you have the right to (politely) tell the umpire that you're protesting the call.

but this is happening before the game starts and the ump doesnt seem to understand what the rule is. knowing this, i never said a word during the game about any overthrow/base award calls bc it would have been useless. mainly bc league i play in doesnt exactly do the whole "protest a call" thing. The LD can barely post a schedule >1 day before a game is supposed to be played, let alone handle umpire conflicts
would it be acceptable [in this case] to bring the rules with me to the next pregame meeting with this ump?
EDIT: I just want the game to be called fair, I dont want to win or lose bc a runner wasnt awarded the proper base(s).
