Substitution rule

Question on ASA fast pitch substitution rule:

I understand a starter can renter once. So here’s the situation. A team subs two starters for pitch hitters in the same inning and these two batters tell the home plate ump who they are substituting for. No problem they are legal substitution. The team then comes out on the field for defensive, but the starters are back in. I may have missed it or the team never told the umpire that the players are reentering. Assuming I caught it and after the first pitch of that inning I could have appealed to the umpire that they were unreported substitute. What would have happened? Would the starters been considered disqualified players or could they just reenter since they were starters.
