Knowing greymule, I'm sure he meant that they would not be playing by OBR in any youth leagues, but perhaps were playing by some modification of OBR, such as PONY, LL, and other youth ball groups are prone to do. Strict OBR is found in some 18U wood bat leagues and other adult leagues, as well as in pro ball, but there is invariably safety rules built in to the OBR-based rules for yute ball.

Back to the OP, another "don't do that" type of thing. No call is the right call. You can tell the runner to let the defense worry about fielding the ball. I don't understand why the defensive coach would have a problem with it, because it potentially saved a smarter runner from advancing.
