Headband in the ASU/A&M game today
Watching the ASU/Texas A&M womens game today. Did anyone else notice the headband that Briann January (#20) for ASU was wearing?
It was a (from TV) a cloth headband with NIke Logo that clearly tied in the back with a knot... I thought it was strange and wondered if it was illegal...
So I went to the NCAA rule book and found that it meets the rule definition of
Art. 14. Any item that goes entirely around the head, such as headbands or haircontrol devices shall:
a. Be a single non-abrasive and unadorned item made of cloth, elastic, fiber,
soft leather, pliable plastic or rubber;
b. Be single solid-colored, similar to the dominant color of the game jersey,
white, black or (women) beige;
c. Be not wider than 2 inches;
d. Bear one manufacturer’s logo or one institutional logo/mascot that shall
meet the restrictions of Rule 3-6.1.a. These logos shall appear only once;
NFHS rules are similar
Nothing says it cannot have a knot or be sewed together... (we clearly allow pre-wrap to be tied in a knot,
so it made me think, if a player showed up with a single color bandana what would prevent that from being illegal (obviously it would need to meet color and logo requirements)
hate being the fashion police but clearly Nike sells these things... and thenthere is nothing about it being hemmed not ragged, etc... so any piece of cloth less than two inches wide that meets color and logo would be legal...
Could be a bandana if it is solid and less than two inches right?
