We pregame to divide the court vertically in the backcourt between the Trail and the C when there is a press situation (more than four players in the backcourt). The Trail takes two-thirds and the C has the one-third closest to him.
Therefore, for the OP's situation my crew would have the C taking the call and the Trail holding his whistle.
