Always a good idea to make eye contact with at least 1 partner before heading to the table to make sure they understand what call you've made and where you want the ball put into play, FTs, shooter, etc. I know you were tableside and it's just a quick turn to give your info to them, but I might suggest slowing down a bit. Loud, small gyms make it more difficult to hear the double whistle....but looking up at the T might have prevented what happened next.

Snaqs is right....whether you made eye contact or not with your P, the prelim signal by both of you forced the double foul call.
