And yes, they were standing when making these remarks. Are these officials thin skinned or are they right?

Could be a house policy. And a strict one at that.
My provincial basketball authority has a zero tolerance policy. I rarely have to enact it, but it is there if it's needed. Maybe this game had something similar?
But in general, I would say that the officials are on the thin-skinned side of the equation.
