catch own pass v. continue dribble

Any further thoughts on this after deliberation?

"Anytime you pass to yourself in the pro game it is traveling, doesn't matter if the pass rolls along the floor, bounces three times, or is caught on the fly."

Can't a pro initiate a dribble with a drop/toss around another player of between the legs of another player?

How about the following:

1. a1 rebounds; makes outlet pass to a2 on the run at midcourt
2. b1 coming at a2, a2 (a) taps the ball over b1's head or (b) grabs the pass or two-hand taps the ball over b1's head
3. a2 continues/initiates a dribble to his goal

In the past - I can't recall seeing a violation called in case (a); what about (b) - it seems essentially like the original question except that the intent is clearly self-pass/initiate dribble.
