This story was not hypothetical, and the situation occured in a game i officiated. I worked his game tonight, and i took everyones advise and did not confront the coach and make any statements about his commenting on the quality of officiating.
It was the championship for mid schools in our area, so it was a big game for them. I could tell the coach in question was wired up, but I made small talk to let him know that I was thinking about this game and not last Saturday.
toward the end of the first quarter, a shooting foul was called on the OTHER team. That coach was complaining that his guy didn't foul. The coach in question walked from his bench, past the scoreres table, to the other teams bench, to tell the coach that the officiating was horrible. I could hear him from the foul line.
It was at that point that i introduced the coach to his chair with a "T".
Now the problem.... the guuy I was working with was a first year guy, that was doing a great job, but He just couldn't have my back. The coach in question refused to sit down, and probably stood up 40% of the time after the "T". I kept telling my partner that HE need to back me up and tell the coach to sit down, that I didn't want to give the second "T". He just couldn't do it, so I was left with the chioice of giving two "T" to a coach or let him slide.
I decide to let it slide as the coach remained calm for the rest of the game.
the coach in question told me he is filing a formal complaint against me, as I gave him a "T" without giving a warning. He said that was A blatant violation of the rules!!!!
I reallly enjoyed the game as it went to overtime and the visitors won by 2 points.
