I can remember a game a few years back when i was an official, bjv first half goes pretty well but the home team as a good control of the game. Early in the third quarter the varsity refs walk by during a timeout and one winks at me as says, "looks like this one is going to go by quick". Well I guess thats when all heck breaks loose.

We have several intentional fouls for extreme stupidity. My partner and I are talking to the coaches and the players, telling the we dont need any kind of retaliation. Game continues to just go south. Both team are in the double bonus in the third. 4th quarter is no different. It seems like everytime up the court there is a foul, and non of these fouls are ticky tack. Bear in mind the home team is up 30-35pts.

If all that is not enough, we are under a minute in the 4th, the ball become loose in the paint, players go diving in. I come in hard blowing my whistle knowing I am calling a jump. Partner is on the other side of the scrum. Players kind of come up on thier own and a kid from the home team gets up and sucker punches a player on on the floor. Luckily for us, we are really the only ones that see it. We report what we have, inform the coach.

Lucky for us that the last 20 seconds went off with out a hitch. We found out later we shot over 50 free throws in the second half. The varsity was set to tip at 700. We got into the officials room 15 till 8. The joys of sub varsity basketball.
