You forgot to add that you never worked small diamond ball, so doing something to help 12-year-old players cope with tremendous stress is something you've never been faced with.
I umpire for money, too. But I don't do it for power. In fact, I find the most undesirable part of my job is when I have to assert my authority. I don't like to, but I sometimes have to. I don't enjoy it.
I would much rather call a nice, easy-going game where the participants have fun, and in turn I have fun. I must say, that's the vast majority of games I work.
