The Platinum is
definitely better at covering the area just below the throat, and has a pad that goes out and meets the bottom of your mask. The Gold is a beefy thing too, but it has a open space there. The Platinum also has an extra plate on the shoulder cap, which I think covers the shoulders better. The Gold has the one larger cap.
