The 8 second and 24 second rules used to be different in this respect: the 8 seconds used to be reset at any dead ball. Now they aren't; the only exception is when there is a throw-in at the division line (who knows why
).
If your case happens during the last two minutes of the fourth period (or an overtime) and team A's coach calls a time-out, the throw-in is made at the division line. If the throw-in passage is to a teammate in the backcourt, team A will have
eight seconds to take the ball in the frontcourt.
