In our first varsity game my first year as head coach, we were in a varsity-only tournament (no JV game), one of my top players was playing with two fouls late in the first half and another forward was already sitting with three. There was a shooting foul called with :00.5 left in the half, so I took out the player with two fouls to protect her, and put in a freshman who was a JV player but I had her dressed for the game. About a month later, she had improved enough to where I dressed her for the varsity even when we had JV games and late in a blowout she got her second varsity action, playing the last 3 or 4 minutes. After the game she playfully thanked me for letting her play more than a half a second!
