It states "attempting to field" a batted ball.

POE states "executing a play".

My belief is that you will know it when you see it. Simply running into a player who is standing there with the ball isn't exactly smart. However, who said ballplayers were smart?

I would not call INT unless the offensive team member caused the fielder to fail to make a play and I think that would be obvious to all when we see it.
