Rev, Had that last night. We ruled the backboard that was up was part of the ceiling. The stationary backboard (in playable area) was a judgement call for the R1. If there was a player there to make a play and hits were remaining - replay. If all the backboard did was keep the ball from contacting the wall - it was out.

Good luck - Had a similar sich last year in a small Jr High gym. Called the replay and was confronted by a parent after the game. "why did you allow them to get a replay when their first contact was a bad pass toward the backboard?" I explained that we had covered it in our coaches and captains meeting and that we were always looking for people interested in volleyball rules to become officials....she shut up quick.
