Question LL rule question

Guys - I came over from the basketball board to ask a Little League rules question. I drove about 100 miles round trip this morning to watch my grandson play in a Junior League All-Star game. In the third inning, with runners on 1st and 2nd, they were off with the pitch. The pitcher threw a wild pitch that hit behind the plate and bounced up over the screen out of play. The umpire directed the runners to 2nd and 3rd. The visiting coach came out and asked (very politely, I might add) if the runners get the base they were going toward plus one. The umpire told him no. Is this the correct call? It didn't have a bearing on the game, since my grandson's team won by eight (he hit a grand slam in the fifth) but I just wondered about it.

Thanks.
