Most of the posters on this website are USA based. In the USA "Football" is "American Football" the game that allows the use of the hands to throw, catch and carry a ball that is not round. Players use Helmets & Padding. There are 5 or 6 referees and active play stops ever 20/30 seconds.

Actually Football plays has anywhere from 4-7 "officials" and all D1 and Pro Ball (outside football) has 7 officials. There is always only one Referee.
And the average play is around 6 seconds. Clock can continue to run majority of the time and stops for certain types of plays.
