Dan,
I've never been involved with any HS teams that leave the state to play anything, except for early season track meets.
Do you know if intra-state tournament basketball is commonplace during the off-season?

During the season I work a prep school league that includes
teams from NY, Connecticut & I believe Mass. There are
also team summer camps that invite HS teams like this one,
as well as AAU but I don't think this is what you mean.
I don't know if this means intra-state play is common but
it does happen.
Dan,
I guess I'm talking about legitimate High school teams that are intact from the high school season, including underclassmen as participants, who are playing in tournaments from other states and which are school system sponsored.

Hmmm...interstate (public?) school system sponsored
tournaments...I do know that during the season there is
some interstate play, mostly within the top rated teams
who go out of their way to see new competition, and
certainly during Christmas tourney time there is inter-
state play as well. Now come to think of it I believe the
vast majority of the East teams from this tourney (at Seton
Hall) were prep/catholic. I don't know how the public
schools (White Plains, for instance) got their
funding/insurance/blessing. And since the Seton Hall session was NCAA sanctioned it might have needed an
army of lawyers to figure out anyway. Also, I remember
that last season Chuck worked a HoF HS tourney that drew
from different states, I dont know the details on that.
Good question.
