Some would see the questioning as baiting the coach. Not a wise thing to do. It is best to talk to coaches directly. In this case, simply state something along the lines of "we are not discussing the strike zone." I did tell a coach Friday that has a history of being a whiner, "Coach, I promise you that if you don't editorialize on my umpiring, I won't editorialize on your coaching." He grinned, said something to the effect of "so if I say anything else about the strike zone, I am gone, right?" My reply was "I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page." After that, he was my best buddy, saying something to me everytime he walked out to coach the bases.
