First:
A foul tip, by defintion, is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's hand (glove) and is legally caught. (OBR 2.00)
This is NOT a foul tip.
Next, a pitch that lodges in the catcher's (or umpire's) mask or paraphenalia is dead and runners, if any advance one base. (OBR 5.09(g))
