I have to agree with Bob, to call high school games we are just reguired to take the open book test once and pass it then send in $50 a year to keep your license (up to 3 sports). BUT to be considered for the tournament you have to complete the test every year and attend a certification clinic every other year....for what that is worth....

Hey Bob I will see JJ Wednesday so I will say hi to her. You heading to Ohio this weekend for the NUS? If so I will see you there!!!

No, I'm going to the state school in Fort Wayne on Sunday, since I need to make the Fort Wayne umpires association meeting on Friday night. I haven't made it to a NUS yet, but always make at least one state school each year.
By the way, of course you're right about the requirements for the tournament. I haven't worked it yet, and won't for at least the next three years, so I haven't concerned myself with that. I do know that it's usually Steve Chamness that runs the NFHS certification clinic up here so I know that whoever attends gets excellent instruction.
I had a feel good moment over the weekend. I was spending quality time with my DD (half the time spent talking about softball of course

) and she asked me why I didn't work the tournament, and I got to tell her that it's because I'd rather watch her play than umpire a game. The smile on her face was worth 1,000 game fees.
Since you're seeing Julie on Wednesday, I guess you're from the Muncie area? You probably weren't in Logansport on Sunday?
