Gary Williams interview

Maryland is playing Duke tonight and I heard Gary Williams doing an interview yesterday, I guess. The interviewer was kind of downplaying Duke's longterm chances because they play four guards and don't have a real imposing big man.

Williams said that just didn't matter anymore. He said the game has changed dramatically over the past two years because of the emphasis on handchecking. "You just can't do it anymore," is basically what he said and it returns the balance of power, so to speak, to quick players who can get open jumpers.

I guess it's not really profound, but I really like the quick game with mid-range jumpers and quick drives to the basket instead of big guys killing each other under the boards; and I was pleased that he gave officials credit for bringing that element back to the game.
