I recently called a tournament where I was reunited with an
umpire that I once called a State 16U ASA tournament with.
He reminded of an incident I had really almost forgotten. It
was in another tournament we were calling in.
Mid November I was PU. This is the set up game. Last two
undefeated teams playing to see who went to the sidelines
to wait for the outcome of the final game of the losers side
of the bracket. Anyway, best I remember no score in about
the 4th inning. Runner on 1st - 1 out. Batter checkes her
swing - I call ball. Catcher wants an appeal...No problem
hmmmmmm, well should not have been. I go to ask partner for
help, catcher and I both look towards partner in B position.
He is gazing upwards. I have already shouted, "Partner, did
she go"? No response. He is watching a flock of geese flying
overhead and out of formation. He replies, "I don't know

but that lead goose has this flock all messed up." "Look at
em', some going South others North". Needless to say, we
stuck with my call. Fans really got a kick out of the whole
thing. No one too upset.
