Strictly this is what applies...
10.4 The ball does not become dead and the goal counts if made when:
• The ball is in flight on a shot for a field goal and:
▬ An official blows his whistle.
▬ The game clock signal sounds for the end of the period.
▬ The twenty-four second device signal sounds.
So the points should have counted.
How ever, if your partner know the ball was in the air but thought the shot was released before his whistle. Then it is a violation and we're going the other way
If you think your partner didn't know there were a shot, go tell him, the ball was released. If he says "I know, the violation was before the release" then we have 3 in the key and a throw-in for a violation.
If he says "oh I didn't know, then count the basket and inbound as usuall.
This conversation should be top 5 seconds, run there, tell him, let him decide. Do NOT think something about the violation, this is not about questioning his call, it is about making sure he knew the status of the ball.
