Situation:
Amateur semi-pro baseball game
Top of fifth, runner on first, one out, visiting team leads 1-0.
Batter lines out to short for second out.
Short throws ball out of play trying to double off runner.
Umpire awards 2nd base only to runner at first.
Visiting team protests game after umpires discuss situation stating that runner should have been awared 3rd base.
Protest:
Commissioner rules umpires ruling was incorrect (this is not in debate).
Commissioner also rules that game is not to be replayed as the umpire's ruling did not "adversly" affect the protesting team's chances of winning (visiting team eventually lost 8-7). States that because first batter after blown call flew out to center that run would not have scored.
Arguments: Visiting team argues that of course the call adversly affected protesting team's chances (passed ball, balk, wild pitch). Also state that MLB rule 4.19 does not say to what degree the blown call affects the protesting team's chances, just states that rule says "adversly" affects chances.
Question: Would you uphold protest and order replay of game from point of protest?
