Shout, Call, Request, Grant ?????

Most verteran officials know that there's a difference between "requesting" and being "granted" a time out, but leave the word "call" and/or "shout", out of the discussion.

The NFHS actually uses the word "call" in the casebook:

4.44.5 Situation B: ... A1 may ... call a time out.

4.44.3 Situation C: ... A1 may ... call a time out.

I do agree that officials should use the terms "request, and "grant", but I also believe that coaches, players, and even officials, can "call" or "shout" the word "time out".

Who's nit picking ???
