Knowing a rule and
applying a rule are two different things. Anyone could copy a rule right out of a book, but that doesn't mean you get the true interpretation of it. The sticky point is
applying the rule, and knowing when/how to apply it. You could sit and read the rule book for a month, then step on the floor for the first time and I guarantee you you'd be a terrible official your first game. Not because you don't know the rules, but you wouldn't be capable of applying the rules in that situation. Trust me, the grass is a different shade of green on this side.
