I had it happen last year as a rookie. I went to report, stopped, then quickly realized that I had nothing...kinda like when my wife's telling me on and on about her day...my lights are on but nobody's home. Just kiddin' of course. I listen to her-I have to-it's in the contract and she has a good attorney.
Anywho, had it happen again last night. This time I just plain goofed and reported the color/number of the foulee. After reporting I head to my position for the throw in, horn sounds, I head over and table informs that I called it on white, 42...home coach immediately inserts that it was blue, 10...his player. Although in this instance I knew who the offending player was, I liked that the coach came forward...and didn't harp one bit about it.
All in all, it was one of my first JV games where both coaches didn't say a word to us about anything the entire game. The only time they said anything was to call a timeout...it was one of those "good games" I've heard officials talk about from time to time. Nice.
