NOCSAE not looking very good today

NOCSAE is a big deal in softball because of requirements that helmets and faceguards have the NOCSAE stamp or seal of approval. Much of the softball world had to replace one-year old helmets produced pre the NOCSAE seal rule for faceguards with identical helmets with the seal. A total waste money. But, ASA and some others insisted that the NOCSAE seal absolutely guaranteed quality.

But, today it appears that NOCSAE means absolutely nothing! It seems that a company in Easton owned by Shutt reconditions football helmets for high school teams was not following NOCSAE requirements regarding testing the reconditioned helmets to verify that they would provide adequate protection to players. NOCSAE says that the failure to test the helmets is not a problem. I see the NOCSAE statement as a big problem. At least Shutt had the commonscense to acknowledge concern about the failure of one of their companies to do its work properly.

I wonder if this company does any reconditioning work for high school softball programs.
