Oops! In bouncing back and forth between baseball and softball, and with the references to "he," I forgot we were dealing with softball in this play.

In Fed and ASA, if the batter-runner steps back toward home plate to avoid or delay a tag, the B-R is out and runners return. The question, then, is whether the B-R was trying to avoid or delay a TAG. Since the play was between 2B and 1B, maybe not. Was any fielder actively trying to tag the B-R?
