NFHS does NOT have a program for certifying scorekeepers. Since there are essentially 50 fiefdoms that utilize NFHS rules and we do not all do scorekeeping exactly the same way, it would be difficult to institute and enforce any kind of certification. By way of elaboration, we in California use a modified NCAA scoresheet and modified NCAA scorekeeping techniques. We do not use the scoring techniques shown in the back of the NFHS rules book. Although I learned scoring using the NFHS techniques, I modified them over the years for ease in interpreting the scoresheet. One thing that I have always done is to use two colors of pen for scoring so that it it easy to pick out where we are in the rotation. The problem with using one color is that everything looks the same.
