You do not HAVE to blow your whistle when you come out onto the floor. I was in a game last year where we had been standing on the court for at least 5 minutes and were obviously visible to ALL players, coaches, fans, etc. and a kid went up and monster dunked it. If you blow the whistle it is a
courtesy. In Texas it is common practice for high school games (boys) and for JuCo. For NCAA (any division) it is not necessary because the rule is no dunking under the 30 min period preceding the game.
